India’s home and furniture market is estimated at INR 50,000 crore but only INR 8,000 crore of that is organized.

In a rapidly changing India, the most defining shift in home retail is-modularity. And it’s not a hunch. Backed by crores in syndicated research and consumer studies, Godrej has put its finger on what modern India wants in its living spaces: flexibility, personalization, and premium factory finish.
“Modularity is no longer restricted to kitchens,” says Dev Sarkar, Senior Vice-President and Head of Consumer Business, Godrej Interio. “Today, consumers expect modular solutions across their entire home, living rooms, bedrooms, dining spaces, and wardrobes. And we’re meeting that need at scale.”
India’s home and furniture market is estimated at INR 50,000 crore but only INR 8,000 crore of that is organized.
Many so-called "organized" players still rely on local workshops or imports. Here, Godrej is a clear distinction. It manufactures in organized factories, sells under a formal brand, and controls the entire customer journey. “There’s massive headroom for growth,” Sarkar emphasizes.
Godrej offers full-home modularity. It has modular sofas, with over a lakh combination, and 150+ dual/triple tone fabric options.
In the Modular Beds category, Godrej offers interchangeable headboards, footboards, and side panels across sizes with multiple storage options: manual, hydraulic, or motorized.
While speaking to FE Retail, Sarkar gives a clear message, “Your home, your way.
FY26 Targets: INR 4,000+ Cr, 100 New Stores
After closing FY24 at INR 3,500 crore, Godrej is targeting a topline of over INR 4,000 crore in FY25. The growth strategy is two-fold: First is Product Expansion: 150 new products (not just SKUs) are launched every quarter. Second is Retail Expansion: Two exclusive showrooms added every week, translating to 100+ by FY26.
Currently, Godrej operates: 1017 showrooms across formats in India, besides a distributor-retailer network spanning 3,000 outlets, and an omnichannel reach across 17,100 pin codes.
This is supported by an in-house logistics system, warehouses, and service infrastructure that even marketplaces rely on.
India’s Diversity Shapes Designs & Demands
India’s cultural and geographical diversity is equally shaping Godrej’s design and inventory strategies. While North India & Punjab go for plush, oversized furniture with luxurious features such as gold trimmings and built-in lighting; Nagaland demands for poster beds, often paired with mosquito nets, an aesthetic rooted in utility.
Likewise, Kerala shows strong affinity for rubberwood furniture, a locally resonant material. Rajasthan has high demand for hand-carved wooden pieces rooted in regional craftsmanship, informs Sarkar.
He also shares that, nowadays, there’s also a noticeable return of retro styles, metal-pipe furniture, vintage silhouettes, soft pastels, and hybrid material use (mesh, wood, and metal).
To keep pace with consumer demand, Godrej has introduced retro-inspired product lines, furniture designed for both indoor elegance and outdoor flair.
While metros continue to adopt premium, tech-enabled furniture solutions, Tier-II and III cities are driving the real growth. A standout example: Godrej’s 10,000 sq ft showroom in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, a city with no mall, yet generating INR 40 lakh in monthly sales.
Sarkar points out how smaller towns are waking up to the value of branded, modular furniture shifting from traditional steel almirahs to a full range of beds, mattresses, kitchens, and décor.
“Interestingly, our growth in smaller towns is outpacing that in metros,” Sarkar reveals.
Technology as the Great Enabler
Personalization is changing every consumer offering these days and home retailing too has revised its strategy with the help of technology like AI. It’s quite obvious that the scale of personalization would be impossible without technology. At Godrej, technology including 3D Configurators allow users to visualize and personalize furniture in real time.
Its AI-powered search enables intuitive queries like “Red sofa with chaise under INR 40,000” and delivers precise results.
Likewise, Godrej’s Marketing Cloud integrations offer real-time updates and promotions via WhatsApp.
Also, smart beds with sensors and motorized recliners inspired by luxury car seats are now part of Godrej's innovative lineup.
Catering to Premium and Value Segments
Godrej has curated a dual-pronged portfolio: For metros, ultra-premium products such as motorized recliners with memory settings, and sensor-triggered lighting beds.
For Tier-II & III cities, quality offerings at accessible prices. For example, sofas from INR 17,500, full beds from INR 16,000, and premium almirahs for INR 17,500.
Local Thinking, Global Reach
With over 10 factories in India and abroad, Godrej exports business to countries including Australia and Canada now generates INR 700–800 crore annually, on top of the INR 3,500 crore domestic business.
The company’s decentralized structure: regional warehouses, state-specific branches, and even sub-regional teams allows hyper-local targeting. The East is currently leading growth for FY26, closely followed by the North, West, and South, Sarkar says.
He informs, Godrej’s in-house capability means a new product can be conceptualized and launched in just 15 days. Similarly, store interiors and exteriors are customized per region and deployed quickly.
As Indian homes become more expressive, flexible, and design-driven, Godrej is ensuring it stays at the very heart of this transformation; one modular sofa, one showroom, and one pin code at a time.
